Is it a coincidence that Hades appears at the very moment Persephone tries to pick the narcissus<\/strong>? Not at all.<\/span><\/p>\nWhat does this metaphor reveal? The narcissus flower (narcissus \u2013 narcissism) is a symbol of the ego-driven qualities of Leo<\/strong>. Leo energy has its purpose: to bloom, to shine brightly.<\/span><\/p>\nBut every flower must eventually give way to fruit. We can\u2019t live in the Leo state forever. Time moves on. Nature evolves. So do we.<\/span><\/p>\nThere comes a time when we naturally outgrow our Leo-ness<\/strong>. And in the Persephone myth, this is symbolized by the abduction of Persephone \u2013 exactly when she was about to pick the narcissus flower.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nShe was a maiden (Virgo) still clinging to Leo, the previous state of consciousness.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nThe abduction is a metaphor for \u201cYou\u2019re no longer a child\u201d \u2013 it\u2019s time to grow up and descend into your inner underworld. And if you\u2019re not doing it willingly, the ground will crack open and sweep you in anyway.<\/span><\/p>\nWe can find this Virgo\/maiden archetype<\/strong> in myth, fairy tales and folklore. \u201cSleeping Beauty\u201d is another metaphor for the Virgoan state of our consciousness (along with the integration of the Virgo polarity, Pisces).<\/span><\/p>\nWhile asleep, Sleeping Beauty descends into the underworld \u2013 just like Persephone follows Hades \u2013 to meet her unconscious. When she is ready, the prince arrives and kisses her, awakening her. She can now move forward into the Libran state of consciousness.<\/span><\/p>\nReturning to the Persephone myth<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nPersephone is taken to the underworld, where she becomes Hades\u2019 queen<\/strong>. While there, she eats the pomegranate seeds offered by Hades. Eating food from the underworld binds her to that realm, preventing her from leaving permanently.<\/span><\/p>\nOnce Persephone eats the pomegranate seeds, she cannot return to being an innocent maiden<\/strong>, unaware of the underworld.
